5th Annual Shoney's 5K Family Fun Run & Walk

Shoney’s® Restaurants will host the 5th annual 5K Family Fun Run & Walk on Saturday, June 1, 2013, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Metropolitan Police Support Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Registration is only $30 through May 31 and $35 on Race Day, while kids 10 and under are free. The Family Fun Run will take place at LP Field – Lot T, adjacent to the Shelby Street Bridge. Nashville, TN. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K will start at 8:00 a.m. There will be a Kids’ Fun Run following the race. Prizes for the 5K top finishers in the male and female categories are $500 cash each. Male and female 1st place winners in each age category will receive a $25 Shoney’s gift card & 2nd place winners will receive a $10 Shoney’s gift card. Plenty of free parking is available. The age categories include: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and up. All runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt along with a goodie bag.

Participants will be provided complimentary beverages and fruit at the finish line. Registration is only $30 through May 31 and $35 on Race Day, while kids 10 and under are free. Participants will include Shoney’s Chairman and CEO, David Davoudpour, Mayor Karl Dean, Police Chief Steve Anderson, Hope Hines, along with other local dignitaries and running enthusiasts. New police officer cadet trainees will also be running in formation. “We are absolutely delighted to once again host this great event for the fifth consecutive year that unites runners and families for a great morning of competition, food and family fun,” said David Davoudpour, “As always, 100% of the proceeds from this event support the men and women who protect us every day.” Police Chief Steve Anderson expressed his strong gratitude to Davoudpour and Shoney’s for creating this event in 2009 that strengthens the bond and partnership between the police department and the citizens of Nashville.

“The Shoney’s Run provides an opportunity for us to showcase major elements of the police department to Nashville’s families, including members of our recruit class who will run in formation during the 5K,” Chief Anderson said. “At the same time, 100% of the run proceeds will fund higher education opportunities and other advanced training programs for the Metro officers. The Nashville Police Support Fund, housed within the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, is designed to invest in the future of Nashville through those who share a long term commitment to the safety of its neighborhoods.”

The festival will begin immediately after the run and will feature Shoney’s breakfast and refreshments, live entertainment, and prize drawings. The Kids’ Zone will include free activities such as face painting, giant inflatables, an appearance by Shoney Bear®, and tours of a police cruiser, police helicopter and police boat. Balloon artists, the Nashville Police S.W.A.T. Team, the Nashville Police Bomb Team and its bomb robot will also participate in the festivities.
