The maker of the world's most popular translation software, Babylon, is continuing to grow. While retaining its traditional focus on translation, it is expanding to include language learning programs for kids and adults as well as other linguistic services.
For over 15 years, Babylon has been a leader in translation and linguistic services, providing innovative solutions for both individuals and corporate clients. With the release of its new website the company is building upon this history. The new Babylon website was created to match the ethos of the company, which according to Aviv Akler, Product Development Manager at Babylon, is "To help people understand and explore the world." The new site is not only beautiful and easy to navigate, but also helps to showcase everything the new the direction of the company.
Of particular interest, and something highlighted directly on the new homepage, is that Babylon's hallmark offering, its best in class translation software, is now free. When asked why they decided to make this change Akler replied "We care about our company and our customers and want to make sure that our translation software is available to as many people as possible." Add-ons and upgrades will be available, including dictionary definitions from some of the world's top publishers, but the basic translation service is free for all personal users.
Beyond its popular translation software, Babylon has also expanded into other areas of linguistic services. According to Akler, "Not many people realize how expansive our [Babylon's] language offerings actually are. We offer everything from language learning programs to mobile translation apps." The language learning software that is offered on the new website ranges from English for kids, through to business English for those who have already mastered the basics and are looking for more specialized programs. Akler's take on the language learning software is that "It is not only effective, it is also fun and easy to use. We know many people have had negative experiences trying to learn a language in the past, and we wanted to offer something that could really help."
There are also other offerings from Babylon that are bound to help people in the mobile age, including the free mobile translation apps. The company has created free apps for all of the major smartphone platforms, and is continually working to bring out new innovations. Babylon has recently released a second app for both iOS and Android, Babylon Touch, that can translate any word simply by taking a picture of it with the phone's camera. Both apps are currently available for download in the App Store and the Play Store.
The launch of the new Babylon website demonstrates that this is a company which appreciates its past, while having a clear vision for its future. The translation side of Babylon is continuing to grow and develop, as the company expands into new areas of linguistic services.
