Professor G. Ray Warner, of counsel at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, has received the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Annual Service Award. ABI presented Warner, who is also professor at St. John’s University School of Law, with the award at the 31st Annual Spring Meeting. The Service Award is the highest membership award and is given to an ABI member whose contributions over the past year have been extraordinary, as determined by ABI’s Advisory Board of past presidents.
In addition to being a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Business Reorganization & Financial Restructuring Practice in New York, Warner is professor of law and the associate dean for bankruptcy studies at St. John's University School of Law in New York. Prior to joining the St. John's faculty, Warner was the William B. Boreland Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
He has consulted in numerous major bankruptcy and consumer law cases, and he represented the bankruptcy trustee before the U.S. Supreme Court in a 9-0 victory in Fidelity Financial Services Inc. v. Fink (1998) Supreme Court case # 96-1370. He is former chair, dean and founder of the American Board of Certification. Warner publishes regularly and is a frequent seminar speaker.
