It is a busy day but so rewarding helping men, women, and children of all ages who really need our help. Lives are hugely impacted by this event.

CDA Cares is hosted by the California Dental Association and The California Dental Association Foundation. Throughout the year, CDA Vice President, Dr. Weber and fellow committee leaders organize multiple events in different locations around California. Each volunteer event is aimed at serving those who otherwise do not have the financial means to receive dental treatment.

“My wife and I will be two of the 1500 volunteers,” says Dr. Weber. “It is a busy day but so rewarding helping men, women, and children of all ages who really need our help. Lives are hugely impacted by this event. The California Dental Association is committed to doing what we can to improve the health of all Californians.”

Over 1,500 volunteers including licensed dentists and oral surgeons, dental assistants, hygienists, pharmacists, students, and community members will be giving their time and abilities to less fortunate members of the community. One hundred dental chairs will be covering the San Jose Convention Center’s floor and each one is expected to be full between the clinic hours of 5am-6pm. Patients will be ushered to the chairs in a first-come, first-served basis and treated based on their most urgent needs.

Some of the services that will be provided are teeth cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions, and a limited quantity of dentures as well as limited replacement teeth.

“The focus is on a person’s most urgent need, which is eliminating pain or infection,” says Dr. Weber. “But once we treat the patient at the clinic, they will be given resources for follow-up care. We know we can’t treat all needs but the California Dental Association also hopes to highlight the great need for dental care and advocate for reinstating adult Dentical which was dropped a few years ago due to state budget cuts.”
