Whether you hire an outside firm or do SEO in-house, it is important to make sure that you are not using outdated strategies that no longer work.

In a recent interview, the CEO of Market Ease Business Promotions, an online marketing consultancy, reveals six outdated SEO strategies that marketers and business owners should avoid.
“Whether you hire an outside firm or do SEO in-house, it is important to make sure that you are not using outdated strategies that no longer work,” said Binh An Nguyen.
When asked to share some examples of outdated SEO practices to avoid, Mr. Nguyen answered:
“One practice that you should avoid is article spinning, which is basically, taking one article, then changing a few words with a spinning software, then distributing it all over to get links back to your site. Spun articles are often hard to read and don’t make sense, since they are created only for search engines. Rather than doing this, a much more effective strategy is to hire a writer to create high-quality content.”
“Another outdated tactic is paying other sites to link to yours. Google is adamantly against sites that use paid links without the no-follow tag, so if you use that, your site might drop in rankings or even stop being indexed by Google. Paid linking is a common method used by blog networks to direct traffic to sites that pay them,” said Mr. Nguyen.
“Link sharing among low quality sites is also an outdated method. It’s a practice where low quality networks of sites link to one another in order to help each other increase their sites’ rankings. Google has changed their algorithms to disregard links shared among low quality sites,” he continued.
“Another linking practice that has fallen out of favor is posting links in forum signatures. Some SEO companies still pay people to post in forums and put links in their signatures so that search engines will pick up these links. Google has wisened up to this practice and no longer gives much value to signature links,” said Mr. Nguyen.
