It has been reported in lighting.co.uk that according to a report by the US Department of Energy, 49 million LED lamps and luminaires were installed in 9 lighting applications in 2012, helping to save $675 million in energy costs during that year. The report looked into indoor lamp applications, indoor luminaire applications and outdoor luminaire applications where LEDs compete with traditional lighting sources such as incandescent, halogen, high pressure sodium and fluorescent lamps.

With a large selection of domestic and commercial LED lighting solutions, the team at Simple Lighting are often approached by customers looking to save money on their energy bills. As the industry progresses, they are often presented with studies and research into the benefits of the solid state lights and how these can be improved further. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the matter.

“Thanks to the fact that LEDs run much cooler than traditional lights, they only lose around 20% of their energy to heat, compared to around 80%. In the UK we have already seen a number of street lights being replaced with LEDs, and now it seems that the transition is broadening to include a wider variety of lights. It will be interesting to see whether the US does choose to install more energy efficient alternatives.”
