Carlson Elects Michael Sweeney to Board of Directors

Interim Steinway CEO and Chairman Sweeney Joins Carlson Board.

Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., announced today that Michael T.P. Sweeney has been elected to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. The Carlson Board includes six Carlson family directors, four independent directors and Carlson President and CEO Trudy Rautio.

Sweeney currently serves as chairman and interim CEO of Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc. and is also chairman of the Board for Star Tribune Media Holdings, the parent company of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He is also a director of First Solar, Inc., where he chairs the Compensation Committee.

Mike’s broad business expertise, thoughtful perspective and his deep board experience will be an asset to Carlson. Of his election to the board, Sweeney said, “I’m delighted to join the Carlson Board of Directors. Carlson has long been among Minnesota’s most important companies, backed by strong family leadership and involvement.”

A graduate of Swarthmore College, Sweeney serves as a trustee of the Walker Art Center. He and his wife, Elizabeth Perlich Sweeney, have four children.
