The mood was one of enlightenment and positivity as “Everybody Paddles,” a grassroots movement and book that highlights the spirit of social responsibility and collaboration, made its way to Harlem, NY on the mild spring evening of Tuesday, May 6th 2013. Author and founder of Everybody Paddles Charles A. Archer traveled uptown for an inspirational book-signing and post reception that took place at Hanley's of Harlem, 316 W 116th St Suite 1-D, New York, NY 10026.

During the affair Mr. Archer personally greeted guests and discussed the message behind “Everybody Paddles” and the book of the same name; which is a collection of inspiring stories from professionals representing several different industries and walks of life. "Everybody Paddles" is a new unique social movement that promotes community collaboration and social responsibility. The organization is a grassroots phenomenon that prides itself on encouraging community activism and involvement. Based on the mantra, "Everybody Paddles - at the Same Time, in the Same Direction, towards the Same Goal,"© Everybody Paddles strives to be the liaison between the community and the change that is needed to foster positive growth.

The event was hosted at a private condominium provided by Dr. Theodore Hanley, a well known member of the Harlem community who owns his own Anesthesiology and Pain Management practice in the area. Candles lined the impeccable space as a pleasant wait staff poured white and red wines, and lined an adorning table with delectable bites to nibble on. The event was also sponsored by The Institute for Research in African-American Studies (IRAAS) of Columbia University. "It's nice to be able to sponsor such a positive event off campus and really start to make our mark within the community," said Assistant Director of IRAAS Shawn Mendoza.

Guests were also able to purchase and have their books signed by Mr. Archer who discussed with each person the meaning behind his powerful movement. The room was filled with many of Harlem's most powerful influencers; including Vince Morgan, candidate for New York City Council, renowned entertainment manager and producer Ramon Hervey, Assistant Commissioner in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Dr. Aletha Maybank, legendary radio personality and Executive Director of the Mama Foundation for the Arts Vy Higgensen, among others.

Archer’s passion began as Chief Executive Officer of Evelyn Douglin Center for Serving Persons In Need, Inc. (EDCSPIN), an organization that he co-founded 16 years ago, which is dedicated to serving the mentally disabled and their families. Archer recognized early on the importance of teamwork and families, friends and businesses working together. As a leader he repeatedly shares with his team that “we are all in the same boat together”, and that it is critical that “Everybody Paddles - at the Same Time, in the Same Direction, towards the Same Goal.”©

Everybody Paddles is excited to announce that this year they are focusing on building essential partnerships with several well-known organizations who are committed to making a difference in their communities.
