Renowned Jewelry Designer Kendra Scott hosted a successful “Kendra Gives Back” Party at the Kendra Scott Scottsdale Quarter store, in Scottsdale, AZ, to benefit Colleen’s Dream Foundation, according to Nicole Drury Cundiff, the Executive Director of Colleen’s Dream Foundation.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Kendra Scott and the success of the Kendra Gives Back Party,” says Cundiff. “Being supported by an organization whose mission aligns with our passions is really special. We are excited to continue to build a relationship with Kendra and her amazing brand.”
Scott agrees the event was certainly a success.
“It was an honor hosting a Kendra Gives Back Party for this cause at our Scottsdale location and I was so excited at the wonderful turn out we had,” says Scott. “Thanks to everyone who came out to support and made the night such a great success! “
Colleen’s Dream Foundation, inspired by Colleen Drury, started in 2012 and supports research for early detection of, and improved treatment for ovarian cancer. On May 08, 2013, in support of the first World Ovarian Cancer Day, the Foundation provided its first grant to the Johns Hopkins University to provide seed funding to some of the world’s brightest young investigators researching ovarian cancer.
Cundiff says the generosity shown by Kendra Scott though the “Kendra Give Back Party,” is essential to Colleen’s Dream Foundation’s efforts in providing this kind of funding. Cundiff says is looking forward to future events with Scott.
“We love what Kendra stands for,” says Nicole. “Her focus on fashion, family, and philanthropy closely mirrors our own passions. We appreciate Kendra’s support and look forward to building a relationship with this amazing woman and her organization.”
For Kendra Scott the feeling is mutual.
“As a mother and a woman, it gives me such pleasure to help give back to such an amazing cause like Colleen’s Dream,” says Scott. “The need for early detection testing and better treatment for ovarian cancer is immensely important for families all over the world and Colleen’s Dream is helping that effort.”
Scott has a long history with the issue of cancer, and understands the need to "give back" to the community.
When Scott first moved to Austin at the age of nineteen, she started her first fashion company, a small hat store in the mall called Hat Box. Scott designed hats for people undergoing chemotherapy to be "comfortable but stylish.” A portion of the sales went to cancer research in memory of Scott's stepfather, who died of brain cancer.
In 2002, with just $500, Scott launched a mini jewelry collection. Today, Kendra Scott Jewelry is a global multimillion-dollar brand sold at renowned retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Lord and Taylor, Henri Bendel and over a thousand specialty boutiques worldwide.
“Having lost my stepfather to cancer, this cause is very near to my heart, and having several friends diagnosed with cancer, I know how cancer can affect an entire family,” says Scott. “Ovarian cancer is known as the ‘silent killer,’ and there is a huge need for support and awareness about early detection and improved treatment of ovarian cancer. I am so thankful for organizations like Colleen’s Dream for their commitment to this cause.”
Cundiff sums up her appreciation for Scott by saying she is a “role model” for all women. “Partnering with Kendra Scott for this event was such an honor,” says Cundiff. “Having been a fan of Kendra’s jewelry, we have watched her organization grow with integrity and principles. She is a great example for all women.”
The Kendra Scott Gives Back Party benefitting Colleen’s Dream Foundation was held on April 24, 2013 at the Kendra Scott Scottsdale Quarter store, in Scottsdale, AZ.
