Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 13, 2013
Plus.io, a platform for building mobile applications, is now expanding into Google Glass development with its new Timeline feature. Plus.io is providing both cloud-based storage and a Restful API for communicating with Google Glass. The Timeline feature is essentially a graphical user interface that uses a workflow-style design to arrange what the user sees and interacts with on Google Glass. With Timeline, Google Glass development will be accessible to a larger audience, from nontechnical users to advanced developers. An introduction to timeline video was released yesterday on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/buildwhatsnext/timeline).
The Plus.io platform also supplies a sandbox along with Timeline to edit the user interface. In this sandbox, the developer will see exactly what the user will see on the Glass device and will be able to customize each Timecard and its visual layout. The platform also provides geofencing capabilities that activate when a user enters a specific geographic area. This feature naturally works well with Google Glass and the ideas coming forth from the Glass development community. Bill Maris from Google Ventures said, "We all know the power of platforms. When you have a great product and robust APIs that will unlock the imagination of entrepreneurs, amazing things happen. We saw it with the web, we saw it with the app store."
According to new research from IMS Research, a subsidiary of IHS, the market for wearable devices is expected to exceed $6 billion by 2016. Currently the focus of the wearable market is within the health care, medical and fitness industries. Theo Ahadome, senior analyst at IMS Research, said, "A $6 billion market in 2016 is our most conservative forecast which assumes that the adoption of wearable technology will be limited by factors including lack of suitable technology, poor user compliance and lack of an overall enhanced experience from devices that are wearable as compared to non-wearable products."
