Salem Park will come alive as children as young as 18 months old will dress as masqueraders and participate in a child friendly version of what has become Atlanta’s largest and most anticipated Memorial Day parade.

As the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival gears up to celebrate their 25th anniversary in the city, evidence of how members of the diaspora are passing along their proud legacy and heritage to a new generation of culture keepers will be displayed in Lithonia on May 18th. According to Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Bandleaders Association president, Patricia Henry, Salem Park will come alive as children as young as 18 months old will dress as masqueraders and participate in a child friendly version of what has become Atlanta’s largest and most anticipated Memorial Day parade.

“Many of our major bands have child divisions,” explained Henry. “They wear their costumes and t-shirts on the day of the parade, eat island cuisine from the vendors and get to know about the traditions their parents or grandparents who are from the Caribbean.”

Henry noted that this year, Atlanta’s very own Sh’Boss Boys will be Grand Marshals at the Children’s Carnival. Despite being just eight and nine years-old, the youngsters gained a strong fan base in the US and China after rapping their way to the finals of America’s Got Talent.

“Young J, Tobias and Lil’ Josh are excited to be participating in the event and they are looking forward to meeting their fans and having fun with the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival,” said Jalana Brown, manager of the Sh’Boss Boys.

While the Sh’Boss Boys are Grand Marshals, kid talent is going to be a major factor at the event which will feature performances from some of the areas young talents including JaBias Da Kidd, Neisha, Femme Fatale Dance Crew, James Swaver, SuperTink, Cassion, B’Mya, Cody, Shakir Grell, Idalis, J Plus The Entertainer, Jumbie Kid and DJ Def1.
