In our first year of operating in NYC, we helped 36 Members find jobs and 29 Members obtain housing.

The New York City (NYC) chapter of Back on My Feet (BoMF) – the national 501(c)3 organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so that they can make real change in their lives – will celebrate with more than 600 people at the organization’s First Annual Birthday Bash on Thursday, June 20th at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

New York Road Runners President and Chief Executive Officer, Mary Wittenberg, will be the Master of Ceremonies, and honorees include: Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Consul General of Israel in New York, Lucy Schulte Danziger, Editor-In-Chief of SELF Magazine, and David J. Grissen, Group President, The Americas, Marriott International, Inc. BoMF Founder and CEO, Anne Mahlum will speak, along with one of the organization’s successful Members.

“In our first year of operating in NYC, we helped 36 Members find jobs and 29 Members obtain housing,” said Mahlum. “The Bash is an evening of celebration, gratitude, dancing, inspiration, drinks, great food and a chance for us to say thank you to all of our great partners, including Marriott International, NYRR, Bimbo Bakeries USA, AT&T, Accenture, PwC, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and many others.”

During the Bash, guests will also have the opportunity to network with key influencers and BoMF NYC Members who have inspired change within their communities. There will also be a photography exhibition that documents stories of Residential Members who have benefited from the BoMF program and who have exhibited qualities that defy the stereotypes of homelessness and celebrate the attributes that make them “Pacesetters.”

"It is my pleasure to join Anne Mahlum and Back on My Feet in the fight against homelessness. This unique program helps troubled individuals take that first step, literally, towards turning their lives around. Back on My Feet gives them the tools to achieve their goals and provides hope for a better tomorrow. Back on My Feet helps forge the same kind of resilience and perseverance one can witness in my homeland Israel. Our society has come a long way, in its short 65 year history, proving that with the right tools you can change a barren desert into a metropolis," said Aharoni.

“Anne is inspiring because she turned her passion into a world-changer,” said Danziger. “I am honored to be a part of this event, which celebrates the Members who have learned the power of physical activity, the importance of discipline and the value in caring for yourself to become a working member of the community.”

Grissen said, “Marriott has been a supporter and employment partner of Back on My Feet since 2009. Homelessness, tragically, is an issue that impacts hotels in every city in which we operate and we are thrilled to partner with an organization that has such an innovative and effective way of combating this challenging social issue.”

All proceeds from the night will benefit BoMF NYC to further provide services to those experiencing homelessness. Major corporate sponsors for the event include: Accenture, ACE (Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless), Bimbo Bakeries USA, and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
