Investigators from Private Investigators Cambridge comment on the importance of legally protecting land and property in light of recent BBC News report dated 10th May 2013: Tony Martin confronts thieves at his Emneth Hungate Farm

This is a hard lesson for Mr Martin to have learnt but he has not retaliated against intruders again. In my professional opinion it is better to legally protect your family and home against a break-in than to confront any potential intruders directly

According to the BBC News report a farmer who killed a teenage burglar and wounded another at his home in 1999 has been targeted again by burglars. Mr Martin was jailed for manslaughter in 2000 and no longer has a gun licence. He was released in 2003 after his murder conviction was reduced to manslaughter.

The BBC News report goes on to say that Mr Martin has said that he has been targeted on two or three other occasions but has not reported them for fear of being convicted again. He said:

I haven't changed my views about what happened in 1999 but the whole experience has made me lose faith in the system and I didn't want to be made out as the criminal again.

In October last year, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said householders who react with force when confronted by burglars would get more legal protection. He added that grossly disproportionate force would still be against the law in England and Wales, but the bar would be high.

Private Investigators Cambridge understands that it is a very frustrating issue but the law needs to be upheld. Many people believe that they should be able to protect their home and family at all costs but unfortunately the law does not allow any more than reasonable force, as Mr Martin found out to his cost back in 1999. Private Investigators Cambridge has many products and services that can help to prevent confrontation when an intruder decides to target your home. Simple law abiding deterrents such as CCTV systems and burglar alarms can be very effective and many clients have had great success.

Spokesperson from Private Investigators Cambridge, Danielle Cox said:
