Tendril Connect Certified Devices to Accelerate Thriving Ecosystem of Third-Party Developers

Tendril®, the leader in delivering consumer engagement applications and services, today announced its global device certification program, designed to ensure third-party manufacturer compliance and compatibility with the open, secure and scalable Tendril Connect platform. Tendril has selected National Technical Systems Inc. (NTS), a leading provider of testing and engineering services and the approved vendor of Smart Energy Profile (SEP) testing, as the exclusive certification test lab for the Tendril Connect Certified program.

With an initial focus on ZigBee devices, but anticipated expansion into other networking technologies, the Tendril Connect testing and certification performed by NTS will insure compliance of hardware devices built and specified to meet this standard. The Tendril Connect testing covers robust network behavior and ZigBee Smart Energy profile compatibility with the Tendril platform. Functions such as joining, service discovery, and network connectivity will be verified during certification testing. All Tendril Connect Certified products will require prior certification to the ZigBee Smart Energy standard.

Growing Application and Device Ecosystem

Establishment of this program is the natural evolution, and realization, of Tendril’s strategic imperative to drive and enable a robust, smart, seamlessly connected energy ecosystem. With more than 500 independent app developers worldwide leveraging Tendril Connect APIs today, (see http://www.tendrilinc.com/developers/, for more information on Tendril’s Application Developer Program), Tendril enables energy service providers and third-party developers to create innovative and differentiated applications to inform consumers about their energy use, enable customers to control and program their smart energy devices, and allow energy providers to monitor and control the entire energy network with powerful tools. Today’s announcement of the Tendril Connect Certified program will ensure a healthy, growing pool of devices are available to spawn innovative applications, and thus extend energy service providers’ ability to customize and grow critical in-house capabilities, leveraging best-of-breed tools and outside expertise.

“These three components – an open and growing device ecosystem, open platform APIs, and Tendril Connect as the connective tissue between apps and devices – provide a unique, future-proof option for global energy service providers,” said Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril. “Our partners don’t need to worry about being locked in to a single vendor, or fear rigidity and obsolescence of proprietary solutions; Tendril’s model allows energy service providers to leverage their existing IT investment by using in-house IT staff to build custom applications on top of an open platform – insourcing our solution rather than simply outsourcing a problem.”
