Offering private career coaching, resume writing and tactical job-search expertise in-house.

Right Executive Search LLC (RES), a leading recruiting partner to many top employers in the New York-New Jersey tri-state area, is now offering individual job-seekers a special package of career coaching services and tools to help guide them through the job-search process. The service, which is an extension of RES’ executive search and corporate placement services, offers two hours of customized “job-search” coaching with its experienced professionals at an affordable price of $199. The services include proprietary job-search materials and, based on individual need, may include resume review, structured search plan development, opportunity identification, networking/social media instruction and interview preparation.

According to Elisa Sheftic, president and managing partner of RES, her firm has seen more and more candidates who are receiving “professional” career coaching and job search advice from individuals with little or no background in recruiting. Often this advice is not practical or relevant in terms of the skills and presentation that recruiters and human resources managers are looking for on candidate resumes and in the interviews, she explained.

“There is a great deal that goes on behind the scenes in the sourcing and the selection of candidates, and ‘real world’ experience is necessary when helping candidates craft their resumes, structure their job search and prepare for interviews," she said. "For example, a candidate may have a resume that is beautifully prepared by a commercial resume writer, but from a recruiter’s perspective, visually and/or content-wise, the resume does not ‘speak’ to what HR professionals are actually looking for on their initial review. Today, the screening of these resumes happens lightning-quick, and you need to capture their attention immediately.”

For this reason, Ms. Sheftic said, there has been a growing trend for Executive Search firms to offer these services by professionals they have hand-selected, in part to counteract much of the poor advice generated by unqualified sources and often promoted online. She expanded her team last year after identifying the need to provide professional, structured career coaching.

“Our services now give candidates the tools, guidance, and insight from ‘hiring insiders’ to maximize the time and effort they devote to job-hunting, and gives recruiters a professionally prepared pool of candidates to draw from,” she said.

A boutique executive search firm, RES provides candidate search and recruitment services for corporate clients across a wide variety of industries and career specialties. Members of the RES staff all come from corporate backgrounds, with years of hands-on experience as hiring managers themselves. Sheftic received her MBA from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business and is the author of many articles offering insights to job-seekers on networking, organizing their job searches, using job boards and social media, and preparing for interviews. Her Career Coaching team includes Marianne Grady, a human resources director for a $2-billion private equity firm, and Heidi Sehrt Gerhard, a talent acquisition professional and certified career coach.
