Stalking is a terrible crime for the victim; it can leave them feeling scared, vulnerable and out of control. In my professional opinion the people who are shown to have this type of behaviour should receive some type of counselling

According to The Telegraph report: 'True stalker' former footballer drove ex-girlfriend to brink of suicide, Matthew Ghent, a former Aston Villa goalkeeper allegedly bombarded his ex-girlfriend with 70 emails and texts, after she refused to accompany him on a lavish holiday after they had ended their six month relationship. He also deposited money into his ex-girlfriends PayPal account and turned up at work. As a result of this alleged harassment the 30 year old victim was receiving counselling and had considered suicide.
The Telegraph report goes on to say that Ghent admitted to harassing his ex-girlfriend and was given a ten week suspended prison sentence, a restraining order banning to contact the victim and was ordered to pay the victim £750 compensation as well as 3135 costs. On sentencing (case number 1200216879) Deputy District Judge Elizabeth Harte at Nottingham Magistrates Court branded Ghent “true stalker” and went on to say:
"This was an exceptionally unpleasant case of true stalking behaviour. This is exactly the kind of behaviour that this law was designed to combat. This is not the first time you have been convicted of an offence like this and you have a previous record that shows you have engaged in this type of behaviour before. If you fail to moderate your behaviour, you will go to prison for a long time.”
Private Investigator Maidstone has helped many clients who have been stalked in a similar way to the victim in this case. With the use of surveillance and phone and PC forensics we have gained enough evidence to allow the victims to take the stalker to court. Providing peace of mind to the victims who have suffered at the hands of obsessed and threatening individuals has been made easier by the new laws surrounding stalking.
