On May 17, Bellucci Premium supports further research into a fake olive oil scandal in the middle east as reported in an article by the Green Prophet.
According to an article by the Green Prophet, a local Israeli TV show called Kolbotek has uncovered some of the biggest food related scandals, including mislabeled olive oil.
This olive oil is being sold on the market when it is not actually suitable for consumption. “We can assume the issue is more or less the same in other Middle East countries where testing standards are less developed. American sources have suggested that about 70 percent of virgin olive oil is fake.”
The olive oil distribution company in question, named EVO Israel Ltd., is a large company that has exported over 44 tons of olive oil from Spain, according to the article. EVO also distributes products to well known grocery stores in the Middle East.
The article further reports that a company working with EVO had sold 20 tons of olive oil that has been tested to be unsafe for humans to consume. “To indicate the scope of the laboratory findings, of 15 samples tested, 13 were found to have much higher levels of mono saturated fats and stearic acids than is acceptable, with an average level of 8 times the acceptable amount of mono saturated fats and 6 times the accepted level of stearic acid.”
“It’s scary to think that olive oil companies are producing and selling products that are mislabeled and not suitable for human consumption,” says Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for organic olive oil producer Bellucci Premium. “It’s important that our consumers understand that Bellucci takes pride in producing a product that has been monitored straight from where the olives were picked. We even provide a traceability app so that our consumers can see where their olive oil was produced. Continuing to build trust in this industry is a must, especially now that companies are producing incorrectly labeled olive oil.”
Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers.
