We love to honor members of the Armed Services through our message and [Lt. Col] Russell has a great story to share.

The capture of Saddam Hussein was a victory that lit the nation – after months of searching, the U.S. had finally apprehended one of the world’s most infamous dictators. The battalion that made the capture was headed by U.S. military veteran and Oklahoma native, Lieutenant Colonel Steve Russell. Russell has since retired from the military but still shares the tale of the capture of his career. Westmoore Community Church (http://westmoorechurch.com/) in Oklahoma City has invited Lt. Col. Russell to speak at its annual Memorial Day recognition services in honor of American service people on Sunday, May 26. The services will be held at 12609 S Western Ave Oklahoma City, OK 73170.

Lt. Col. Russell’s book, We Got Him!, details the six-month manhunt to apprehend Saddam Hussein and has been praised as “an extraordinary glimpse of the war,” by the late Robin Moore, author of The Green Berets and The French Connection.

While Lt. Col. Russell is best-known for leading the battalion that was a central player in the hunt and capture of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, he has a much broader record of service. Before retiring to his native Oklahoma in the fall of 2006, he served 21 years in the U.S. Army’s Airborne, Light and Mechanized units, traveling the world on covert assignments.

Lt. Col. Russell is a former member of the Oklahoma State Senate and is currently chairman and founder of Vets4Victory, a nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Russell is a sought-after public speaker and Westmoore Community Church is excited to host the Oklahoma native at its Memorial Day commemoration.

“We love to honor members of the Armed Services through our message and [Lt. Col] Russell has a great story to share,” said Pastor Paul Cunningham. “We are very grateful for his sacrifice and look forward to celebrating with him this year.”

Westmoore Community Church welcomes all Oklahoma residents to its services at 9:00, 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. The Church asks that service people wear their uniforms or other military apparel to be recognized at the Memorial Day service.
