Being judged the leading mom in business against such great competition is validation that Goat Milk Stuff serves as an example of the American entrepreneurial spirit.
Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) May 15, 2013
StartupNation.com, a leading business advice, resources and networking site for entrepreneurs, is unveiling the winners of the StartupNation 2013 Leading Moms in Business Competition. The national competition, sponsored by office products leader Staples®, honors the achievements of mothers running successful businesses they have built from the ground up.
The #1 winner of the 2013 Leading Moms in Business competition is PJ Jonas of Goat Milk Stuff (http://goatmilkstuff.com). The second place finisher is Debra Baretta of Mama Baretta, and the third place winner is Sheri Atwood of Ittavi. The top 10 businesses were decided by a popular vote. The top three winners were selected from the top 10 by a panel of expert judges, based on the following criteria: 1) revenue growth, 2) innovation, 3) creativity, and 4) future growth potential.
Goat Milk Stuff is being awarded $10,000 by Staples for their #1 ranking. In addition, all three of the top winners are also receiving $1,000 to spend at Staples towards office improvements; a one-to-two hour complimentary office design consultation by Business Interiors by Staples®; and a complimentary business growth consultation by StartupNation co-founders Jeff and Rich Sloan.
According to American Express OPEN’s 2012 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, there are 8.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States generating approximately $3 trillion in annual revenue and employing more people than the three largest U.S. employers combined (IBM, McDonald’s and Walmart). With women-run businesses growing at 1.5x the rate of all U.S. firms over the past 15 years, it’s no surprise that mothers make up a growing segment of business owners in the market.
"It’s a major challenge to run and grow a business while juggling a family," said Jeff Sloan, co-founder and CEO of StartupNation. "We are proud to support these heroes of entrepreneurship and models of inspiration."
The number one winner of the 2013 competition, PJ Jonas of Goat Milk Stuff, said, "Our whole family is elated at the news that I won the Leading Moms in Business contest. Thank you to StartupNation for offering and Staples for sponsoring this contest that values mothers in business and the roles we play. I am so grateful to everyone who believed in me enough to spend some of their valuable time voting me into the top ten for judging. Being judged the leading mom in business against such great competition is validation that Goat Milk Stuff serves as an example of the American entrepreneurial spirit and is a worthwhile business that helps people lead a more natural life. I hope that my winning also shows other moms that investing time teaching their children to work hard at age-appropriate tasks is a viable option that can help them to support their own families."
Winning the StartupNation Leading Moms in Business Competition helps mom-run businesses to achieve even more growth for their companies. Past winners have been featured in such high-profile media as MSN, BizJournals and ABC News. Past winner Nina Rodecker of Tasty Clouds confirmed, "Winning StartupNation's Leading Moms in Business Competition did wonders for my business. Winning the competition helped me grow my revenue to the extent that I could not have imagined. The exposure I received would be invaluable to any startup business."
