In terms of a venue like the NEC which will host many VIPs, this technology can improve their experience and security.

IFSEC International 2013 took place this week from May 13-16 at the Birmingham NEC and showcased 650 security companies exhibiting at the event to 30,000 security professionals attending.
With so many security professionals in one area, IFSEC international is probably one of the safest exhibitions in the world, but a reporter from the IFSEC team toured the NEC’s security control room to see how it runs securely behind the scenes.
The report details how the NEC has 375 High Definition (HD) cameras throughout the arena and 40 ANPR cameras to monitor parking following a recent upgrade.
The arena uses ANPR software and video analytics to keep track of how many vehicles are in the car parks, but it is also experimenting with how Automatic Number Plate Recognition can improve the experience of important visitors and recognise VIP’s number plates. This would give them speedy, seamless access to the car park without making them pay.
A spokesperson from AlertSystems said:
“It is interesting to find out what the security is like at the Birmingham NEC, where IFSEC is being held. The venue is demonstrating impressively how useful ANPR can be and the many uses it can provide. As well as monitoring parking, it can be used to give registered vehicles access to restricted areas. In terms of a venue like the NEC which will host many VIPs, this technology can improve their experience and security.”
