The Academy applauds the US Senate for confirming Marilyn Tavenner as administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Last night’s vote was bipartisan and overwhelming.
Marilyn Tavenner, MHA, BSN, RN, has served as acting-administrator for CMS since 2011. Ms. Tavenner is the first confirmed administrator in seven years.
In a time of uncertainty, Ms. Tavenner is uniquely qualified for this position. She has a proven track record of leadership as a nurse, hospital administrator, and state government official.
Ms. Tavenner brings a high-level of knowledge of how the health care system works as Virginia’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources. Her knowledge of CMS management, policy, and regulatory decision-making is profound.
Academy president Joanne Disch noted, “The Academy is confident that Ms. Tavenner’s interdisciplinary experience, innovative thinking, and proven fiscal responsibility will benefit the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, taxpayers, and recipients of services alike.”
