In an effort to bolster Swiss innovation and growth, Venture Kick provides capital and advice for academic-based startups. In each of the 3 stages, the jury of seasoned executives evaluates the plan and execution of the startup, awarding the winners a financial bonus. Promising entrepreneurs are also offered professional guidance in developing their business through the 2-day kickers camp. faceshift, whose academic founders come from the three most renowned Swiss universities, was able to both formulate and launch it’s business during Venture Kick. faceshift passed each of these rounds and won the final round, receiving in total an award of 130,000 CHF ($135,000 USD).
faceshift created a novel markerless and real-time facial capture product for the film and game markets. users drive virtual characters with their own facial expressions using commodity depth sensors and faceshift’s patented algorithms. By doing so, faceshift has allowed a wide audience access to high-quality facial performances. With Venture Kick’s advice, faceshift was able to globally launch its application, and now has customers in over 20 countries. Thibaut Weise, faceshift CEO, stated: “Being a part of the Venture Kick program was instrumental in our early growth and the formulation of our plan.” A jury of VCs were impressed by this plan and faceshift’s success.
