Registration is now open online at http://www.stepupforcancer.com for the Fifth Annual Step Up for Cancer fundraising and awareness event, where row-by-row, step-by-step, thousands of participants will transform Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Sunday, August 11, 2013, into one giant stride toward finding a cure for cancer. Cost for participation is just $30, which includes a race day bib, Step Up for Cancer T-shirt and goodie bag.
With an estimated 20,000 Coloradoans being diagnosed with cancer each year, Step Up for Cancer provides an entertaining, healthy and exciting way for participants to make a difference in the fight and raise money for over 40 Colorado cancer non-profit organizations.
Step Up for Cancer is an interactive, stair-climbing event where people of all ages and athletic abilities are invited to walk, climb, run or cheer in a festive atmosphere. There will be an Elite timed heat for competitive racers and a “stairless” course for those participants who are unable or would rather not tackle the 33 rows of stairs. Spectators will have an unprecedented sporting experience with a 360-degree view of all of the athletes huffing and puffing their way through the stadium. Step Up for Cancer also features a yoga area, a massage tent and a Kids Zone.
“When we started this event, we were hoping we could raise some funds and awareness for cancer organizations we care deeply about,” said Step Up for Cancer Director Amy Venturi. “To be hosting our fifth annual Step Up For Cancer is a significant milestone and we are excited the event continues to be embraced by so many people who share our passion about fighting cancer.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to be inspired and uplifted through meeting people and organizations on the front lines in the fight against cancer, as more than 40 nonprofit organizations aligning and partnering to create a “Community Village” on the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park concourse. The Community Village will provide a vast amount of information regarding the many facets of cancer including healthy living, prevention, early detection, treatment, access to care, patient and caregiver support, research, advocacy and survivorship.
Individuals or teams can also raise additional funds by asking for donations from friends and family, knowing that the money will go directly to their cancer charity of choice. Step Up for Cancer organizers estimate over 2,000 participants of all ages, stages and walks of life will unite to support the participating organizations.
The event will take place from 7:00 am to 10:30 am at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with presenting partners Anadarko, King Soopers, the Denver Cutthroats and HealthONE, and sponsors KCNC/News4, Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Honest Tea, Kroenke Sports Charities, Frederic Printing, Elevated Third Digital Agency The Denver Post and 103.5 The Fox.
