The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) recently announced its nominees for the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards. In its 19th year, the awards recognize original, multiplatform television and digital programming content illustrating the rich diversity of the multiethnic and multicultural global viewing audience. Myx TV, the fastest-growing Asian-American entertainment network in the United States, is among its contenders for the awards in two categories. Press Play, Myx TV’s original show that featured dozens of independent music artists from around the country, joins BET Networks and Nickelodeon in the category of Best Awards & Honors. MashBox, Myx TV’s interactive TV show featuring second screen technology developed by Rambus Inc., will be evaluated alongside mun2 for the award for Digital Media-Long Form.

“Our commitment to providing the best of Asian American entertainment drives our business at its core,” says Miguel Santos, General Manager for Myx TV. “As we continue to break barriers for Asian American programming, we are proud that Press Play and Mashbox – two of our boldest TV shows– not only put new faces and new music on mainstream television and changed the way we experience TV, but also stand alongside the best multicultural programs in the industry.”

Myx TV created Press Play to create a destination for independent and up-and-coming music artists whose music defines the pan-Asian American generation. Featuring artists that launched their careers on YouTube and formed bands in garages, the show enabled television debuts for dozens of artists and created a platform where fans could watch and vote for their favorites. From hip hop to island reggae, country to alternative rock and symphonic electronica, the diversity in sound led to a diversity in talent on the air.

MashBox, from Teddy Zee Productions and hosted by Adrian Zaw and Grace Su, enhanced the viewing experience by delivering innovative mobile features powered by the Rambus Imerz™ media platform. Rambus Vice President of Mobile Technologies, John Thomas noted that, “The Imerz platform turns a passive, lean back viewing experience into an engaging, lean forward, personalized and immersive experience.” Featuring Asian American entertainment personalities, buzzworthy breakthrough artists and snack-size bits of comedy, commentary, music, food, and reality programming, the show gave a demanding and tech savvy audience a glimpse into the future of television.

Subsequently, all throughout the month of May, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Press Play can be viewed on Video-On-Demand on Comcast Top Picks, Cox Freezone and Time Warner Entertainment On Demand. Catch independent music artists like AJ Rafael, Dawen, Alex Carbonel, Jazi, OnFire Ent, Morgan Ashley, and New Heights as they take center stage this month.
