Software Company urges more women to aim for senior roles in software development.

MSM Software, a software solutions business with offices in London, Bristol and Exeter are proud to announce the appointment of a new Managing Director. Sinead O’Brien, previously MSM Software’s Operations Director, will be assuming the role with immediate effect. The promotion denotes a rare move in an otherwise male-dominated industry.

MSM Software’s previous Managing Director Thomas Coles, is to assume a more client-facing Chief Executive role. Regarding Sinead’s appointment, Thomas noted: “Sinead has been with MSM for ten years and it has been in my mind for some time to make this change when the time was right. There comes a time when every founder has to relinquish control of their business and Sinead’s reassuring and authoritative work and growth while she’s been with us makes this a very easy decision. We are all hugely excited about the future as a result of this change.”

Sinead, who has been with MSM for a decade, represents a minority of senior level female IT workers in an industry where female presence has gradually been declining. E-Skills research has shown that just 18% of the UK’s IT and software workforce are made up of women, a figure which has dropped by 4% since 2001.

Keen to see more women excelling in software development, Sinead commented:

”I am delighted to be part of a company which bucks the trend for women in IT. At MSM Software we have six women on the management team – each of whom has been promoted on merit because they excel in their field. I’m not sure why women are put off from building a career in the technology industry as I have found it to be a very rewarding sector in which I am constantly learning and evolving my skills. The technology industry is definitely one in which women can prevail and I can highly recommend it!”
