On Saturday, May 11, Florida National University teamed up with Sam’s Club to host a fundraising and meet-and-greet style event at Sam’s Club located in Doral, Florida. Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the event raised awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which works with local communities to provide treatment for children with a variety of afflictions from asthma to birth defects and cancer. The event also allowed members of Florida National University to meet with and educate members of the community about the services the university provides.
“The event went well,” says Jose Alonso, the Social Media and Marketing Representative at Florida National University. “We thank Sam’s Club for the opportunity to sponsor the event, to assist them in raising funds for such a worthy cause, and for providing us with the space to exchange information with members of our local community.”
Attendees of the event were offered free blood pressure readings and body mass index measurements, as well as free fingerprinting and pictures for children. They also enjoyed delicious cupcakes and were privy to two demonstrations, live cake decorating and rose-bouquet arrangement building, which were in honor of Mother’s Day.
“This event was a wonderful opportunity to meet members of our community and share information about local scholarship opportunities, the qualifications for and process of applying for financial aid, veterans training, military tuition assistance, online learning, and more,” continues Alonso.
Sam’s Club’s ultimate goal is to raise $1,000 per day on each of the forty days they will be holding similar events at their Doral location. With the help of Florida National University, they were able to surpass their goal and raise $2,800 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
