David A. Chaumette, founding partner of Chaumette, PLLC, has taken office as the new president of the Houston Bar Association (HBA). With over 11,200 members, the HBA is the fifth largest metropolitan bar association in the nation. Chaumette succeeds Brent A. Benoit, a partner at Locke Lord LLP.
Chaumette has been named “Texas Rising Star” and a "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics Magazine for several consecutive years. He holds degrees in aerospace engineering from Princeton University and Stanford University and obtained his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School.
A member of the HBA Board of Directors since 2004, Chaumette most recently held the office of president-elect. He is the recipient of the Standing Ovation Award from the Texas Bar for his service to TexasBarCLE, and has been recognized as an Extraordinary Minority in Texas Law by Texas Lawyer Magazine.
Chaumette is a past president of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and has served on the boards of directors and executive committees for the HBA as well as Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and First Colony Little League. In addition, he is a fellow of the American Law Institute and the Litigation Counsel of America.
Chaumette is admitted to practice before the state courts of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas and the District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the National Bar Association, the Houston Lawyer Association, the College of the State Bar of Texas and the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas.
As the founding partner of Sugar Land-based Chaumette, PLLC, his practice focuses on business litigation. He is also a leading lawyer on issues related to electronic discovery and data management.
