Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 21, 2013
A survey conducted by American Express Meetings & Events published in April’s issue of Illinois Meetings and Events magazine listed the top five US destinations for meetings and events this year. Executive Travel Directors (ETD) put together a list of budget-friendly, ongoing summer events in each of these cities in case you find yourself wanting to break away between meetings to enjoy the warm-weather.
1. Orlando, FL
Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) First Thursdays- The first Thursday of each month OMA hosts what is known as “Orlando’s original art party” from 6-9pm. For $10, visitors can view new artwork (with a different theme each month), enjoy live music, gain access to a wine and beer cash bar, and indulge in some light refreshments.
2. Washington, DC
NoMa Summer Screen 2013- Every Wednesday between May 22 and August 14 the NoMa Business Improvement District puts on an outdoor movie screening from 7-11pm. Guests can set up their chairs and blankets free of charge in the designated grassy lot. Prior to screening, movie-goers can enjoy a DJ, barbeque, and the occasional surprise guest. This summer’s films include The Goonies, Indiana Jones: Last Crusade, The Breakfast Club, and Bridesmades, among other new and old classics.
3. Las Vegas, NV
Freemont Street Experience- Located in downtown Las Vegas, Fremont Street offers free entertainment every night, whether you are gazing at the neon lights or attending one of the various special events. Freemont Street’s Rock of Vegas Summer Concert Series features popular artists every weekend. All you have to do is show up for a fun-filled evening.
4. Miami, FL
Miami Spice Restaurant Month- During the months of August and September, Miami’s premium restaurants offer delicious meal packages and promotions (Lunches $19 or $23, Dinners $33 or $39). Patrons may indulge in three-course meals created by world-renowned chefs at the participating vendors.
5. Chicago, IL
Grant Park Music Festival- Starting June 12, this summer-long concert series offers classical music Tuesday through Saturday evenings. Various acclaimed classical musicians perform live at Millennium Park’s outdoor amphitheater. Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, both tourists and Chicagoans have been enjoying this free festival for 79 years.
Further information on these events, as well as listings of other summer schedules, can be found on each city’s official website. There are plenty of quality events to attend while you are in town, so be sure to check them out.
