A new, dedicated Short-Term Orthopedic Unit will open June 11, 2013 at Harbor House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hingham, Massachusetts. Dr. Michael E. Ayers, of South Shore Orthopedics in Hingham, will serve as consultant, making rounds on the new 15-bed orthopedic unit, providing continuing and ongoing education while consulting with staff, patients and physicians, including the primary surgeon.
The Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group short stay specialty unit will provide a stepping stone between the hospital and home for patients recovering from hip, knee and shoulder surgery, as well as other orthopedic injuries and fractures. The new Hingham Short-Term Orthopedic Unit is designed to provide rehabilitation in a comfortable environment, specifically for patients recovering from orthopedic related surgeries and injuries including:
- Hip or Knee Replacement
- Back and Shoulder Surgery
- Traumatic and Fragile Fractures
- Pain Management due to Orthopedic Injuries
Along with rounds by Dr. Michael E. Ayers, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, the new Short-Term Orthopedic Unit features spacious private rooms and semi-private rooms, each with a flat screen TV, and a support staff of nurses and therapy personnel with specialized training in orthopedic rehabilitation to better serve the particular needs of our orthopedic patients.
“This new unit is a model for patient-centered care,” says Susan Jessup, administrator of Harbor House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. The goal is to seamlessly bridge rehabilitation initiated in the hospital with therapies provided at Harbor House in order to assure a successful transition to home.
