Icon Offices, a local company owned and operated by Rachel Sonn, has recently opened in The Exchange Centre in downtown New Orleans. The company offers 50 individual private offices suitable for professionals, as well as a shared staffed reception area, break/kitchen facilities, a gym, and two board rooms.
"The shared workspace trend has seen tremendous growth in the last few years, and New Orleans is especially well suited for the concept because of the explosion of start up businesses in the area," explains Sonn. "Unfortunately, until now, the only locally-owned office options were open co-working spaces. The companies offering private offices in this area were large national companies, which were very corporate and very expensive."
After several years of managing locations for one of those larger national companies, Sonn saw a window of opportunity and chose to go out on her own to create a more reasonably-priced, local alternative. “New Orleans has such a 'buy local' mentality. We support dozens of independent shops on Magazine Street, but big-box retailers traditionally do terribly here. I wanted to offer the local version of serviced office space.”
Icon's offices range from $500-$750/month for a fully private office including all utilities. Part time offerings geared towards home workers, such as packages of conference room time, mail services, and "virtual" offices, begin at $25/month. The location occupies the sixth floor of The Exchange Centre, formerly the Chevron Building, at 935 Gravier, New Orleans, LA 70112.
