AlertBoot Seeking Partners for Australian Market Following Anticipated Data Breach And Privacy Laws

Harsher penalties for serious data breaches are already in place, and mandatory breach notification laws are expected in 2014.

AlertBoot, a global managed services provider of mobile device management (MDM) and full disk encryption (FDE) solutions is finding renewed interest in its services from Australia and surrounding countries. This is a result from imminent changes to Australia's personal data privacy and data breach notification laws, with channel partners seeking to prepare for the inevitable.

"Anticipated changes to federal law mean that the Australian data security market is seeing renewed interest in solutions like mobile security for BYOD and whole disk encryption for laptops. It is affecting surrounding countries that do business in Australia as well," said Tim Maliyil, CEO and founder of AlertBoot Data Security.

"While Australia has a well-established IT market, interest in data security has lagged behind the US and Europe. This will change because harsher penalties for serious data breaches are already in place, and mandatory breach notification laws are expected in 2014. Many changes will be forthcoming in the next 18 months, and Australian businesses will seek out IT vendors that offer easy to use and easy to implement solutions that are affordable, scalable, and robust."

Maliyil refers to amendments to the National Privacy Principles and Information Privacy Principles, now known as the Australian Privacy Principles (APP). The new privacy principles, among other things, codify breach notifications into the law, potentially forthcoming next month, with a compliance grace period of at least one year, according to sources.

[Increased Fines and Penalties]

Further momentum comes from the Federal Privacy Commissioner, who was authorized last month to hand out fines of up to $1.7 million to organizations and $340,000 for individuals. Even "small scale" offenders are not immune, with maximum penalties of $34,000 and $170,000 for individuals and organizations, respectively.

AlertBoot helps companies avoid such penalties by securing personal data. The solution is one of the easiest ways to comply with Australian Privacy Principle 11, "Security of Personal Information," especially considering that the APP is modeled after already-established global laws of a similar nature. Encryption is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect person information from misuse and loss, as well as de-identifying it.

The cloud-based service is popular among those seeking a turnkey mobile security solution that requires very little maintenance. Mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, as well as laptop computers, are deployed, managed, and controlled via the secure online management console, readily accessible from any internet-enabled device. Further information on the BYOD solution can be found here.

Although sought-after by large enterprises for cutting costs and increasing IT efficiency, AlertBoot's simple setup makes it ideal for small and medium-sized businesses in Australia that don't have dedicated IT staff.

[Channel Partners Encouraged]

Channel partners are especially appreciative of the AlertBoot's simplicity. The ease of implementation means partners spend less time deploying the solution and more time going after sales.

Combined with competitive commissions and no sales quotas; direct marketing support, technical training, and joint webinars; and 24/7 global support, AlertBoot offers Australian partners a unique value in branching into a new and growing business segment without upfront risks.
