Released in May 2010, Dawn of the Dragons quickly became one of the top MMO RPG games on Facebook, helping prove that social games could retain core gaming principles such as high production value artwork and big, immersive storylines.

It’s been three years since 5th Planet Games, a leading developer of core, free-to-play games, launched Dawn of the Dragons, and yet the battle rages on in West Kruna. To mark the third anniversary of the popular social Role Playing Game’s (RPG) initial availability, 5th Planet has been hosting a series of special events throughout the month of May celebrating the game’s most popular characters, most memorable storylines, and its entire community of dedicated gamers. The month-long “Dawnniversary” celebration culminates tomorrow with the release of a new Zone, new World Raid, enhanced Player versus Player (PvP) action, and other updates.

Released in May 2010, Dawn of the Dragons quickly became one of the top MMO RPG games on Facebook, helping prove that social games could retain core gaming principles such as high production value artwork and big, immersive storylines. The game later became one of the top hits on Kongregate, Armor Games, NewGrounds and other social platforms, with a mobile version launching on iOS last February. Collectively, Dawn of the Dragons has been played by over three million gamers and has received more than 85 million play sessions on Facebook, 37 million on Kongregate, and 15 million on Armor Games. Of the game’s first 300,000 players, 8 percent are still active and engaged in the game today.

“That ‘Dawn’ continues to grow and evolve like it has is a testament to our fans and the passion they bring to the game,” said Robert Winkler, co-founder and CEO of 5th Planet Games. “It is rare for a game to remain so popular all these years after its launch, and to celebrate we wanted to do something special to both give back to our existing players and to attract new players as well.”

In addition to the in-game events and special promotions that have been taking place in Dawn of the Dragons all month long, tomorrow 5th Planet will add new content and features to the game, in keeping with the company’s Games-as-a-Service model. A special Anniversary Zone will become available and will be accessible to all players regardless of their current level, and a new World Raid will begin this Friday, bringing the community together for 12 days of hard-fought battles and the chance to earn extra loot and rewards. 5th Planet is also releasing a significant upgrade to Dawn of the Dragon’s PvP system, in which more variables factor into the outcome and players must think more strategically about how to combat their opponents in order to win the battle.

Dawn of the Dragons is an in-depth RPG that immerses players in the ancient Kingdom of West Kruna, where the honest, hardworking people cry out for a hero to save them from the horde of bestial dragons come to steal their land. Players must take up arms, band together, and strategize their way to victory by completing a series of quests, raids and other challenges. The gameplay is extremely social, as players join forces through guilds and collective raids but also compete against one another in fierce Player-versus-Player battles. The result is one of the top social RPGs in the history of the genre.
