Masonry Heater Association Announces Annual Design Contest Winners

The Masonry Heater Association of North America selected winners of the annual Design Contest for wood-fired Masonry Heaters and wood-fire Masonry Bake Ovens.

First Place Masonry Heater

The Masonry Heater Association ( announced the winners of this year’s design contest, held at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Little Switzerland, North Carolina were chosen in three categories: Masonry Heaters, Masonry Wood fired Bake Ovens, and General Masonry. Masons had the opportunity to display their artistic abilities and craftsmanship. Being an award winning mason is an honor in the Masonry Heater Association.

In the Masonry Heater category, Third place went to Jean-David Moreau (L’Esprit Du Lieu, Quebec, Canada). Second place was awarded to Matthew Helicke (Left Hand Masonry, Fort Collins, CO.) and the First place winner was Chris Prior (Adirondack Chimney Co. Inc., Middle Grove New York).

In the Masonry category, Dan French (French Masonry, Imperial, MO.) won Third Place, Second place went to Jon Santiago (ClaySol, Sequin, TX) and the First place winner was Jeffrey Owens (JTP Masonry, Allen Park, MI).

In the Bake Oven category, Third place went to Dan French (French Masonry, Imperial, MO.), Second place had two winners, they were Hendrick Lepel (Kinsale, Ireland) and Jessica Steinhauser (Steinhauser Pottery, Guelph, Ontario) and the First place winner was Jim Frisch (Western Masonry, Inc., Woodinville, WA)

Judges Pat Manley, Glen Overk and Gary Hart judged 20 entries on Skill in Craftsmanship, Aesthetics, Creativity, and Overall Design.

The Masonry Heater Association of North America is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the interests of the masonry heating industry and masonry bake oven industries and their clients. Founded in 1987, MHA is an association of builders, manufacturers and retailers of masonry wood-fired heaters and masonry wood-fired bake ovens.

The Masonry Heater Association is composed of members from 10 countries, has a Certification program and an Education program with 4 day workshops scheduled in Washington State, Ontario and Pennsylvania later this year. It is committed to the education and development of Masonry Heaters and Masonry Bake Ovens.
