New “Associate Transitions Portal” Program Provides Employment Resources To Get Associates Back in the Workforce

To assist U.S. Cellular® associates who are directly impacted by the company’s agreement to sell its Chicago, St. Louis, central Illinois and three other Midwest markets to Sprint, Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications, in collaboration with U.S. Cellular, developed a custom “Associate Transitions Portal” website as part of a larger strategic plan to assist the 765 associates impacted by the business deal.

To enhance the existing transition support, U.S. Cellular reached out to Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications with the concept of creating this portal as another tool to help the company assist its transitioning associates. The resulting portal provides a robust “workbook” of resources designed to support transitioning associates throughout their entire job search process, from initial company research through negotiation strategies. The site provides helpful guidance around managing change, career direction, self-assessment, resume and cover letter tips, interviewing guidelines and social networking. Associates can also post their resumes, search opportunities, read career news and receive updates on hiring events in their various markets.

With Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications, U.S. Cellular sought partnerships with major Midwest employers for the program. Job seekers can browse internal job opportunities across the U.S. Cellular footprint, as well as with Allstate; AT&T; Avis Budget Group; Fifth Third Bank; Jenny Craig; Motorola Solutions, Inc.; RadioShack; Target; Walgreens; Waste Management; and other wireless carriers.

Skills for Chicagoland’s Future is a key initiative of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, designed to close the workforce skills gap, drive business growth, and provide employment opportunities for Cook County residents.
