Profound in their simplicity, the poems reveal a whole other world seen through the lens of books.

Communicating through books is an idea that separates humanity from everything else in nature. Although other species can feel emotion, use tools and have sophisticated methods of communication and social structures, only people write things down. That’s the idea the author honors with new volume of poetry celebrating books and all of their diversity.
“The Book of Books” features 100 poems by Vasile Munteanu, who also has written several other volumes of poetry. The selection “Book 24” offers a glimpse of classic writers: “A ploy with Tolstoy, got corky with Gorsky, got pesky with Dostoyevsky.” In the poem “Book 50,” Munteanu explores the emotions the written word can evoke: “I see two three, or more three four, a page with age, a page of rage, dear sage turn page … A muse to amuse, a muse to abuse, a muse you lose.” Profound in their simplicity, the poems reveal a whole other world seen through the lens of books.
Author Vasile Munteanu came to the United States from Bucharest, Romania, as a teenager. He has taught literature and philosophy at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. He earned degrees in English from Oakland University in Michigan and a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Interpretation and Culture from State University of New York at Binghamton. Munteanu has written more than 11 books of fiction, poetry and philosophy, including “Godmaker,” “Chandala,” “The Book of Longing” and “The Book of Aloneness.”
