The world can be a harsh place for young girls—particularly young girls of color—and the messages they receive at a young age will affect their future outlook in so many ways. I want that message to be one of complete self-acceptance.

“For Brilliant Brown Girls Everywhere” is the message I want my own daughter to internalize,” says Mathis. “The world can be a harsh place for young girls—particularly young girls of color—and the messages they receive at a young age will affect their future outlook in so many ways. I want that message to be one of complete self-acceptance and confidence in a world that might not always be teaching them those same qualities.”

Mathis has also released a website for the book (http://cmathisrollison.wix.com/bbg), hoping to attract more attention for the teachers, parents and guardians of young readers who might benefit from its message. “Building a reading base is a challenging effort,” says Mathis, “but I have faith that the lessons learned in For Brilliant Brown Girls Everywhere will be strong enough and important enough that anyone who reads it will refer the book to friends and family.”

As a realtor with Beachfront Realty in Aventura, Florida, Mathis divides her time between working in real estate, writing, editing, developing websites and creating rhinestone-decorated shirts to market her work. Camilla Mathis is also the president of Helping Hurting Women Heal Inc. which is a Florida nonprofit corporation based in Miami. Her books can be ordered online through Amazon.com, TigerDirect.com and Rdio.com, or on her company website at http://www.booksbycamilla.com.
