Matteson to Share How Typography is Critical to Delivering Richer Reading Experiences

IDPF Digital Book 2013
Matteson will discuss how typefaces designed for the Web and e-books make the e-reading experience better.

Steve Matteson, Monotype Imaging’s creative type director, will present “Creating E-Books: Styling & Fonts,” as part of a panel discussion at the IDPF Digital Book 2013 Conference – the world’s longest-running e-book conference, presented by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF), May 29-30, 2013, at BookExpo America at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.

As e-books evolve beyond plain text, styling and typography can become critical to delivering richer reading experiences. As a panelist, Matteson will discuss how typefaces designed for the Web and e-books make the e-reading experience better.

The presentation is intended for publishers, marketers and designers, and it will feature a discussion on which technologies can aid in the creation and use of powerful typography for Web and e-reader designs, including:

  •     Technologies that make designing fonts better and easier
  •     Fonts available for license through Monotypes’ eText Collection
  •     Key factors that influence type selection
  •     Letterforms and typefaces that make sense for the screen
  •     Incorporating fonts into various digital mediums, including e-readers
