Complimentary Materials, Including Texts, eTexts, MyLab, and Mastering Personalized Learning Programs Provided to Support the Professional Development of AP Teachers

Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, will supply a variety of complimentary print and digital resources in support of College Board-sponsored Advanced Placement Summer Institutes. These subject-specific professional development opportunities provide high school teachers with in-person and/or online support and training needed to teach AP courses. Topics include overviews of AP courses, exams, lesson plans/assignments, and strategies for teaching students at beginning or intermediate levels. Approximately 900 Institutes will take place across the U.S. from June through August.

Educational resources offered by Pearson include MyLab/Mastering online learning products, which provide online homework, multimedia tutorials, and skills remediation to offer students a personalized learning experience to prepare them for the rigors of the AP Exam.

The Institutes also will provide instructional support specific to AP Exams aligned to Pearson’s print and digital editions. New titles offered this year include:

  •     Urry, Campbell Biology In Focus AP* Edition, fully covers the College Board's new AP Curriculum Framework to help students master the AP Biology Framework Science Practices.
  •     Tro, Chemistry: A Molecular Approach AP* Edition, thoroughly revised, fully supports the College Board's new AP Chemistry Curriculum Framework for the 2013-2014 school year.
  •     Jolliffe, Writing America: Language and Composition in Context AP* Edition, is keyed directly to AP Language and Composition outcomes and carefully aligned to the Common Core State Standards.
  •     Briggs, Cochran, Calculus AP* Edition, builds from a foundation of exercise sets and examples designed to teach rather than simply supplement the narrative. This program is available in October 2013, but AP Summer Institute attendees will receive a sneak peek: a sample chapter will be sent with each AP Calculus request.

“AP Summer Institutes offer teachers a valuable opportunity to engage in professional development across a wide range of subjects,” said Rick Culp, Executive Vice President, Sales, Pearson. “The complimentary print and digital support services we provide to these educators are part of our continuing efforts to increase the number of qualified AP teachers, and to prepare students for success in the classroom and in life.”
