HOUSTON, TX (PRWEB) May 27, 2013
The mission of the Society for Heart Attack Prevention & Eradication (SHAPE) is to eradicate heart attacks and stroke by championing new strategies for prevention while advancing the scientific quest for a cure.
To help fulfill its mission, SHAPE has embarked on a series of scientific conferences designed to maintain up-to-date awareness of novel devices and guidelines for early detection of heart attacks and stroke as well as updates to ongoing clinical trials.
On Friday, May 10, the task force met via web conference to hear presentations from some of SHAPE's world renowned scientists and clinician advisers and to discuss the following areas of interest:
- New data on noninvasive imaging of atherosclerosis using coronary artery calcium scoring
- New data on noninvasive imaging of atherosclerosis using CIMT
- 3D carotid imaging & measurement of plaque volume and total plaque area
- Coronary calcium scanning - implications of score progression risk
SHAPE intends to convene its task force quarterly and an announcement will be sent in late summer.

The Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE) is a tax-exempt organization founded by Dr. Morteza Naghavi, former faculty member of the Texas Heart Institute and the University of Texas in Houston. SHAPE promotes education and research related to early detection, prevention and treatment of arterial plaque, the underlying cause of heart attacks. SHAPE is committed to raising public awareness about noninvasive, cost effective screening programs that detect potential heart problems in asymptomatic populations.
