The creation of an LED that emits a broad spectrum of warm white light on a par with sunlight has proven something of a difficult task for experts in the field, however, it has been reported in networkworld.com that the U.S. scientists have grown nanocrystals using europium oxide and aluminium oxide powders, due in part to their good phosphorescent properties. Looking into the atomic structure of the materials using x-rays from Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source, it was discovered that two of the three types of crystal structures had never been seen before. The researchers have not yet predicted a date for when the technology could be released into the market.

A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the findings.
“Although LED lights are already by far the most cost effective and high quality way to light a workspace, it’s exciting to think that this could be improved further. Warm white light that shines as well as natural daylight is something that has been talked about for a long time in the industry so we’re looking forward to seeing the outcome of this research.”
