6th Street Consulting (6SC) and NC4 were recently awarded the 2013 Microsoft Partner of the Year Award for their collaboration on NC4’s Street Smart™ application. The award honors Microsoft partners for their innovative solutions during the past year. More than 3,000 nominations from around the globe were collected from over 100 countries. The award winners and finalists were chosen based on their solutions’ market impact, commitment to customers, and groundbreaking use of Microsoft products and technologies.

This year, the 2013 Partner of the Year Award for Collaboration & Content recognizes 6th Street Consulting and NC4 as exceptional partners who excel in providing customers with innovative SharePoint solutions in content management, search solutions, and collaboration. "The 2013 Partner of the Year Award winners and finalists represent some of the best and brightest our ecosystem has to offer," said Jon Roskill, corporate vice president, Worldwide Partner Group, Microsoft. "We applaud each of our partners for demonstrating exceptional dedication in working to solve the most pressing technology challenges facing our mutual customers today. Congratulations to each award winner on this recognition."

NC4, a situational readiness management firm located in El Segundo, California, partnered with 6th Street Consulting (6SC), a strategy and technology consulting firm based in Redondo Beach, California, to help architect and develop the SharePoint user interface for NC4’s Street Smart™, formerly known as, SAFECOP™. The highly sophisticated application would arm Tampa police officers with critical, near real-time crime data while on patrol in the city’s streets. This high-speed information sharing would enable officers to combat crimes faster by visualizing data points on maps and allowing police officers to aggregate and share relevant information through situation-based bulletins and police blogs.

Tampa Police Department (TPD) Assistant Chief John Bennett championed the idea that technology was the answer to solving Tampa’s crime issues. Tampa’s police officers required immediate feedback to incidents as they unfolded in real-time and the ability to track crime trends via data feeds and live police blogs. To address this issue, NC4 and 6th Street Consulting joined forces to create an application that provides law enforcement officers the ability to fight crime rather than react to it. With the Street Smart™ application, police officers can detect criminal patterns in specific locations through live, collaborative police blogs and search different elements of a crime scene with a few clicks of a button. What originally took police officers weeks and months now could be done in a matter of minutes.

The TPD deployed the cutting edge technology during the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. Cities typically experience a spike in crime rate with large scale events but with Street Smart™, Tampa’s crime rate dropped by 26% even with 20% fewer officers patrolling the city. This significant decrease in crime was credited to Street Smart™ for maximizing policing effectiveness with crime maps, bulletins, and the ability to share information quickly. The application was hailed as a crime-fighting game changer and is currently integrated in every police vehicle within the TPD.

Assistant Chief John Bennett of the TPD praised the success of Street Smart™ stating, “...Street Smart™ takes advantage of successful policing practices combined with a proven technology platform to provide a common operating picture. What used to be handled in roll calls or on notepads now lives in a solution that is available around the clock to all officers and gives them information in near real time, at their fingertips.” As a result of the success of Street Smart™ within the TPD, NC4 has plans to release Street Smart™ in nine additional jurisdictions in the coming year.
