Volo Aviation LLC announces that it has been awarded a three-year contract to manage the FBO and commercial aviation services at Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG) in upstate New York.

“We are very excited by the potential for growth at Plattsburgh International Airport," says Kyle Slover of Volo Aviation.

Volo Aviation LLC announced today that it has been awarded a three-year contract to manage the FBO at the Plattsburgh International Airport (KPBG) in Plattsburgh, NY. Volo Aviation’s responsibilities include management and operation of the airport’s general aviation FBO, as well as providing above- and below-wing services for commercial carriers Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air. Owned and operated by Clinton County, Plattsburgh International Airport is quickly establishing itself as a multi-purpose aviation and aerospace complex serving the entire Plattsburgh/Montreal/Lake Placid Region, including northern New York State, southern Quebec and Vermont.

“We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract," states Brian Ciambra, Volo Aviation’s Senior Vice President for FBO Operations. “By leveraging our FBO experience and market knowledge, we are very confident that we can assist Clinton County in achieving their goal of enhancing the customer experience while growing business at this location.”

Volo Aviation Chief Operating Officer Kyle Slover is also enthusiastic, stating, “This contract allows Volo Aviation to demonstrate our ability to deliver comprehensive services to airline clients, in addition to services currently offered to the general aviation community. At Plattsburgh, we will be responsible for multiple airlines’ onsite ticketing and related customer service functions, as well as ramp operations including fueling, deicing, and baggage handling. Additionally, we are very excited by the potential for growth at this location.”

Situated along Lake Champlain, the airport operated as an Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) base until its closure in 1995. PBG was home to several Air Refueling and Bombardment Squadrons, and supported operations of B-47 Stratojets, KC-135 Stratotankers, the B-52 Stratofortress, and FB-111 Aardvarks. The local area was also home to 12 Atlas-F ICBM silos assigned to the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron, the only silos to be situated east of the Mississippi River.

Today, Plattsburgh International Airport offers many amenities to the region. PBG has been owned by Clinton County since 2002 and the airport’s massive facilities have been upgraded to civilian aviation standards. The airport now boasts a state-of–the-art passenger terminal facility, abundant ramp space, and significant multi-model capabilities with dedicated access to major highways and a direct rail spur. Additionally, the airport is designated as a Foreign Trade Zone, allowing tax benefits to many enterprises. Passenger growth has increased steadily from 4,000 enplanements in 2007 to over 110,000 in 2012 and 2013 enplanements are on track to reach 150,000.

“We see a great opportunity at Plattsburgh," says Ciambra. “Our first goal is to make the aviation community aware of the capabilities that this airport has to offer. It boasts 11,000-plus feet of runway and is VFR 95% of the time. This location should be on every pilot’s mind as being a great tech stop candidate for Trans-Atlantic routes.”

Clinton County Administrator Michael Zurlo agrees. “We look forward to working with Volo Aviation and developing a mutually beneficial relationship. We have long felt that Plattsburgh has vast unrealized potential, and we are pleased that Volo Aviation shares our vision.”
