Social bookmarking sites such as Facebook are a wonderful way to keep up with family and friends but they can also become a source of pain and anguish, as in the bullying case of Miss Picchio, when a joke or revenge goes way too far

According to The Telegraph report dated 26 May 2013: Italian prosecutor may put Facebook staff under investigation after girl’s suicide over online ‘bullying’, Fourteen year old Carolina Picchio from Novara in Northern Italy, committed suicide in January after a gang of boys circulated an unpleasant video of her on Facebook. The group of boys are said to be friends of Miss Picchio’s ex-boyfriend who had allegedly insulted her on Facebook when she left him days earlier. Before committing suicide Miss Picchio wrote on Facebook: “Forgive me if I am not strong. I cannot take it any longer.”
The Telegraph report goes on to say that The Italian Parent’s Association has filed a criminal complaint in Rome against Facebook for allegedly having a role in the instigation of Miss Picchio’s suicide. Mr Saluzzo, the Novara prosecutor told The Telegraph he was probing how the videos had stayed online ‘for days’ even after Miss Picchio’s friends requested their removal.
