Taking a Tuscan Light Photo Workshop in South Tuscany with David Hoptman is comparable to taking a photo workshop from a local Italian. David lived in this area of South Tuscany from 2004-2010. This is certainly a great advantage for participants as he speaks the language, know the best off the road picturesque hill-towns, as well as where to find the best local restaurants, markets and photographic locations to be had. So why take a photographic workshop in Italy with a tourist when you can go with a local who knows the Italian Culture, speaks the language, as well as having thirty years of photographic and teaching experience.
This unique region of South Tuscany also known as The Maremma is populated with many ancient Etruscan towns and mid-evil castles. The terrain is undulating rolling hills, valleys and forests offset by mountains that are home to many small local Italian villages. Life in this particular area has remained relatively unchanged. The local foods, wines and restaurants maintain the charm of an unspoiled Italian culture.
This is a unique opportunity for those who have been searching to discover and photograph in Italy where few tourists find their way. There will be no bustle of big city life during this workshop, only friendly smiling welcoming faces. What I stand by it that food and lodging for the most part is half the price and the quality twice as good as in bigger Italian cities making for a higher quality experience at much more affordable prices.
This is two, one week workshops each one lasting five days. Sign up for one or both weeks, as the itinerary will be different each week so as not to be redundant for those able to sign up for both workshops.
Foundational photographic skills including composition, lens choice, camera functions lighting, HDR techniques, will all be discussed and incorporated into the daily workshop excursions. Most important will be instructions on composition, which relates to all genre of photographic studies, as well understanding how to best use your tools at hand to achieve the results you strive for. Everyday during the workshop there will be ample time for personal one on one instruction, David will be there to help you problem solve and discuss the goals you wish to attain throughout each day of the workshop. Each day will there will be demos in the field, critiques and lots of photographic discussions. This workshop is recommended for those shooting digitally, traditionally, and for those interested in learning more about iPhone artistry. Creativity and interaction with fellow participants will be supported and help to facilitate a positive upbeat learning experience.
