Clients include boarding school applicants, high school, transfer, international, graduate, and adult students applying to colleges/universities.

With over 25 years as a college administrator, professional counselor, and college instructor at city and state universities in New York, she has dedicated her career to providing exemplary services to thousands of learners. She is a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and a Master's degree in Counseling from Syracuse University.

Since opening her private practice in Norwalk, CT in January 2012, her emphasis has been on identifying best-fit institutions for clients based on grades, G.P.A., standardized test scores, extracurricular involvement, interests, career aspirations, and myriad other criteria. She assists students craft effective and memorable college essays which highlight their true essence to college admissions personnel. According to Thompson, "The heart of College Admissions Coaching, LLC is inspiring clients to genuinely become excited about, and take ownership of, the college search and applications process. The idea is to transform this potentially stressful time into an exciting and informative one!"

According to Inside Higher Education, in 2010, approximately 26% of high achieving students employed a college admissions coach, and that number continues to grow. Busy students engaged in academic, extracurricular, and family/social pursuits can often benefit from expert, focused help. Guidance counselors simply do not have enough time, given their large caseload to provide individualized, sustained services to all of their students. A seasoned professional can often alleviate the stress and support clients by creating time lines and gently "nudging" them to remain on track in a way that parents/caregivers often cannot.

Not all students, however, who would benefit from these services are able to take advantage of them due to financial constraints. Private college admissions counseling, much like private academic tutoring, is a luxury service. Ms. Thompson has introduced these two scholarships, in addition to her free speaking engagements, as another way to give back to the Fairfield County community.
