Nearby suppliers may be asked to carry out the work in place of bigger nationwide firms
Battlesbridge, Essex (PRWEB UK) 28 May 2013
An article released by FloorData.com, one of the web’s leading flooring industry resources, has hinted that smaller construction firms could be set to benefit from continuing NHS spending cuts.
According to a report by AMA Research, capital spending in the healthcare industry is set to decline as the government clamps down on National Health Service funding. The NHS expects to spend approximately £10 billion over the remainder of the Comprehensive Spending Review Period until 2015, but a 17% decline in capital spending means that large-scale renovation projects and investment opportunities are likely to be avoided or scrapped altogether.
However, as the organisation looks at further ways to cut costs whilst maintaining service standards, the focus is expected to shift from new builds to smaller, cheaper refurbishment schemes at primary health facilities. FloorData has suggested that this market trend could consequently open up excellent opportunities for local firms as opposed to nationwide suppliers – a statement that a member of the management team at Green Apple Flooring happens to strongly agree with.
“The development of small, community-based hospitals and clinics could be a blessing for local construction firms who are well-equipped to fulfil these types of contracts,” he explains. “Though many of the NHS’ plans are still in their preliminary stages, local GPs are set to commission new projects themselves according to the needs of their own premises, which means that nearby suppliers may be asked to carry out the work in place of bigger nationwide firms who have typically been the first port of call for the NHS in the past.”
He goes on to mention another point in the report that proved extremely thought-provoking for he and his team.
“We also agree with what FloorData are saying in that more and more of our business is going to be centred on flooring refurbishment projects instead of new installations,” he adds. “Once the initial ‘boom’ in demand for floor coverings in hospitals and clinics subsides, we expect to see a period of strong growth in the demand for replacement floors. This will encourage a continuous need for our products and services in the healthcare sector.”
