The UK-based flooring supplier has announced its support for a new government-led scheme which aims to make it easier for companies to comply with environmental legislation.

Green Apple are great supporters of the initiative and look forward to viewing the public’s feedback on the matter

Environment Secretary Owen Paterson released a press release several days ago that called for UK businesses and the general public to contact the government with ideas as to how to make the country’s environmental rules and regulations easier to find and, crucially, to understand.

Paterson has supported the launch of the programme by suggesting that businesses could save more than £1 billion over the course of ten years if environmental guidance were easier to follow. It is therefore assumed that creating a comprehensive resource that outlines current requirements in a clearer format will make it easier and much cheaper for companies to comply with environmental laws and evolve their business as new legislation comes into practice.

Green Apple are great supporters of the initiative and look forward to viewing the public’s feedback on the matter. The company is particularly keen to offer feedback to the government in the wake of the recent EU timber legislation. The new laws, which were introduced in order to ensure no illegally harvest timber enters the European Union, came into force on 3rd March and instigated a company-wide revision of the way in which the teams handle their internal processes.

“We were lucky that the introduction of all the new guidelines and consequent paperwork did not pose too many problems, as we were well prepared for the changes by the legislation’s launch date came around,” explains a member of Green Apple’s buying team. “However, we would definitely encourage better and more straightforward guidance from governmental organisations prior to the launch of environmental regulations.

“These kinds of changes can greatly affect the operations of any given company and puts pressure on them to investigate and comply with legislation. Though necessary, preparing for change is often a difficult process. We know first-hand that sifting through hundreds of documents to look for clear-cut advice costs businesses a great deal of time and money - two things we can simply never have enough of!” he adds.
