By increasing our offering for this application, we hope to provide government and military personnel greater support in efforts to maintain critical communication.
North Andover, MA (PRWEB) May 30, 2013
L-com, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products, has released several new lines of military/tactical rated fiber optic cable assemblies, including multimode OM2 and OM3 and single mode cable assemblies with LC, SC, or ruggedized ST connectors. While the new lines include stock lengths from 1 to 10 meters, L-com's online custom cable configurator can now be used to create custom lengths with no minimum order quantities to be built in as little as two days.
Military/tactical fiber optic cable is built for the abuse of battlefield utilization. It has an outdoor-rated polyurethane jacket that resists UV radiation, cuts, abrasions and chemicals. The cables are impact resistant (meeting TIA/EIA-455-25 military specifications), crush resistant (meeting TIA/EIA-455-41 military specifications), and they support a max tensile load of 1000 Newtons (N) with a minimum bend radius (MBR) of 5.0 cm for installation. For operation the max tensile load is 500 N with an MBR of 3.0 cm, and they work in a temperature range from -55° to +85° C. The ruggedized ST connectors use stainless steel bodies and high-force springs to ensure a tight mate even when exposed to shock and vibration.
"There are very few applications for fiber optics as challenging as military applications," said David Gallagher, Product Manager. "By increasing our offering for this application, we hope to provide government and military personnel greater support in efforts to maintain critical communication."
While stock lengths will be available off-the-shelf for same-day shipments, L-com's online custom cable configurator will allow buyers to specify cable lengths, mix and match connectors or polishes, get an instant price, and place the order online to have the cables custom built in as little as two days. In addition to military applications, these cables can be used in outdoor, industrial, and harsh environment applications common to the broadcast, aerospace and other vehicle markets.
