While we would like to think that charity boxes are safe from theft, this isn’t always the case.

CCTV images have been released following the theft of a British Heart Foundation Charity Box at a mobility shop in Wakefield, reports the Wakefield Express.
The newspaper reports that a woman described as white, in her late 20s with long dark hair wearing a grey top with beige Ugg style boots was captured on CCTV posing as a customer, accompanied by a young boy.
The Wakefield Express details how surveillance footage shows the woman putting the charity cash box into her handbag before a member of staff returned from the back of the shop. The incident happened around 4.45pm on Wednesday May 15. The thief then pretended she needed to get some cash because her credit card was damaged but did not return to the shop.
A spokesperson from AlertSystems said:
“While we would like to think that charity boxes are safe from theft, this isn’t always the case. It’s always a shame when a charity misses out because of callous criminal behavior. A CCTV surveillance system is now a fundamental requirement for all retail establishments. By investing in HD surveillance, you increase the chances of being able to identify a criminal by providing images that can provide evidential quality pictures.”
