The Dave Matthews Band is on a 50-date tour this summer. They hit the Toyota Pavilion in Scranton tonight, and First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown, Penn. on Friday May 31.

The Dave Matthews Band, or DMB, is taking off this summer. But that, as they say, is par for the course. The South African/American rockers have been touring every year (except one) for the past two decades.

This year, the Grammy Award-winning group has embarked on a 50-date coast-to-coast road trip, which opened at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodlands, Texas on May 17.

DMB performs at the Toyota Pavilion in Scranton tonight and the First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania this coming Friday, May 31.

Next on the schedule are: the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on June 1; the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on June 6; the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Conn on June 7 and 8; the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass. on June 15 and 16; the Klipsch Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana on June 21; and 22; and the Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh, New York on June 25 and 16.

The band performs next at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey on June 28 and 29; the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York on July 2; the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Center, New York on July 3, and the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Elkhorn, Wisconsin on July 5 and 6.

From there, stops in Clarkston Missouri; Maryland Heights, Missouri, Cincinnati, Ohio, Hershey, Penn.; Tampa and West Palm Beach, Florida; Orange Beach, Alabama; Charlotte, North Carolina; Virginia Beach and Bristow, Virginia; Commerce City, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

The West Coast leg will include a return to The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington for DMB’s traditional Labor Day weekend shows. After three more gigs in Las Vegas, Nevada – as well as Chula Vista and Irvine, California – the wrap is set for the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on September 8, 2013.

In addition, the band’s support acts include moe., JD McPherson, The Head and the Heart, Brandi Carlile, Mavis Staples, Fitz and The Tantrums, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, O.A.R., Kool & the Gang, John Butler Trio and SOJA.

The Dave Matthews Band is known for their trademark summer-long tours of the U.S. and Europe. Their concerts feature lengthy improvisational renditions of their songs with an elaborate video and lighting show, as well as very popular supporting acts.

A South African and American rock band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991, the group’s founding members include: singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer/vocalist Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Boyd Tinsley joined the band as a violinist shortly after.

Moore was in an ATV accident and died of his injuries in August 2008. Jeff Coffin has since taken over on sax. Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds have also become touring members.

Their most recent album, Away from the World, was released in September of 2012 and also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, the band’s sixth release to do so. This ties them with the Eagles for the most #1 albums in the chart’s history.

As of 2012, the Dave Matthews Band has sold an estimated 30 to 40 million albums worldwide. The band has also won one Grammy Award. (Source: wikipedia.org)
